Presented as part of INTERNI Materiae at FuoriSalone 2026, in the Cortile d’Onore of the Università Statale di Milano, "365" for Gibus explores outdoor living as a continuous environment evolving across time and seasons. Set in one of the most iconic courtyards of Milan Design Week, the installation engages with the exhibition’s theme through a structure that redefines the relationship between landscape, architecture and perception.
The evocatively titled installation 365 invites us to reflect on the outdoors as a continuous environment, habitable all year round, where transformation is not an event but a permanent state.
A pergola becomes a habitable threshold that modulates light, air and time, redefining the relationship between interior and exterior. The project interprets the theme of Materiae as a process of perceptual and spatial transformation: what initially appears as a landscape draws nearer, becomes denser and is recomposed into surfaces, textures and structures.
The protagonist is the hi-tech bioclimatic pergola Velvet, with a retractable roof offering two degrees of freedom that allows the light beneath the structure to be modulated. With its minimalist design and aluminium construction, it is presented in a deep brown finish that engages with the natural and architectural context. Inside, on the Deck platform, five digital monoliths introduce a narrative and dynamic dimension through evocative videos that capture the passing of the seasons.
The pergola is not merely a frame but a means of connection: it filters light, regulates the air and accompanies the passing of time. In this process, the boundary between interior and exterior is no longer a dividing line, but a fluid and permeable state. The work suggests that the quality of living arises from the balance between nature and design: matter is not merely what we see, but what renders space perceptible through layering, rhythm and variation.
